Using Atomic Force M ~ Croscopy to Study Soil Reactions

چکیده
Within the realm of modern science, many of the most challenging fields of endeavor involve interfuces. Not only are interfaces highly complex environments in and of themselves, they also require interdisciplinary research in a time of increased specialization. Soils are the quintessential interfaces at the earth’s surface, for they are the links connecting the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the geosphere, and the biosphere. Soil particles, with their high surface-area-to-volume ratios, present practically infinite environments for interaction. Yet, the structures, chemical compositions, and chemical reactivities of soil mineral surfaces remain but poorly understood. Over the past few decades, new techniques and approaches have evolved to probe the complex natures of mineral surfaces and surficial interactions. Sophisticated surface-sensitive technologies, such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), secondary-ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS), low-energy electron diffraction

Structure and composition of soils#
This paper presents a study of soils structure and composition using up to date technique, such as scanning electronic microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, as well as some other characterization methods. It was shown that soil particles have porous structure and dimensions in the range from several millimeters to several hundreds of nanometers and consist ...
متن کاملFinite Element Simulation of Contact Mechanics of Cancer Cells in Manipulation Based on Atomic Force Microscopy
The theory of contact mechanics deals with stresses and deformations which arise when the surfaces of two solid bodies are brought into contact. In elastic deformation contact occurs over a finite area. A regular method for determining the dimensions of this area is Hertz Contact Model. Appearance of atomic force microscope results in introduction of Contact ...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of Frequency Response of Atomic Force Microscopy in Liquid Environment on Cantilever's Geometrical Parameters
In this paper, the non-linear dynamic response of rectangular atomic force microscopy in tapping mode is considered. The effect of cantilever’s geometrical parameters (e.g., cantilever length, width, thickness, tip length and the angle between the cantilever and the sample's surface in liquid environment has been studied by taking into account the interaction forces. Results indicate that the r...

Introduction: Natural radioactivity in the soil is considered a major indicator of radiological contamination. Primordial radionuclides are the main source of natural radioactivity. Natural radioactivity transfers radionuclides into the environment and poses radiation hazards to people's health. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the radon concentration an...
